SKVR textEnglish
Etsin neittä velolleni,I sought a maiden for my brother,
Kuulustelin kullallein.I inquired for my golden one.
Löysin neitosen lehosta,I found the young maiden in the grove,
Sinihelman heinikosta. The blue-hemmed one from the hayfield.
Sanoin sanalla tällä:I spoke these words:
"Satis, tyttö, saanihein!""Take this, girl, my hay-gift!"
Tyttö vasten vastaeli,The girl countered in reply,
Vasten vastahan saneli:Retorted back defiantly:
"Sylen, kelmi, kelkkahesi,"I'll shit, scoundrel, on your sleigh,
Siull on paskassa pajusi,Your boat's stuck in shit,
Likaset on liistehesi!"Your shafts are filthy!"
Poika verkaisen levitti,The lad spread his woolen cloth,
Rahaarkkusen avasi,Opened the money chest,
Tyttö retkahti rekeen. The girl leapt into the sleigh.
Tulin kopjasti kotiin,I hurried briskly home,
Emo karkas katsomaan,Mother rushed to look,
Sanoi sanan pojalle:Said to her son:
"Näätkös, Aappo Annin tuopi,"See, Aappo brings Anni,
Punapintelin pitää."Wearing the red belt of worth."
