SKVR textEnglish
- - - Näin tehdessään hän saneli:
1Sotken, sotken sauvii,I stir, I stir the sticks,
2Tien, tien tiilii,I make, I make bricks,
3Lyön pallii,I strike the clay lumps,
4Paikkaan uunii.I place [them] into ovens.
5Sormusta peitän, sormusta peitänI hide the ring, I hide the ring,
6Enkä mä tiedä kelle sen heitän.Nor do I know to whom I should cast it.
Sormuksen peitettyään hän kysyi:
7Kenellä sormus on?Who holds the ring?
Ja se joka arvasi pääsi hänen kanssaan "kosimaan" niinkuin sanottiin. - - - Kun nyt kosijat palasivat kysyttiin heiltä:
8Mistäs miehet on?From where are the men?
9Kosista,From the rapids,
vastasivat miehet. Taas kysyttiin että:
10Saatiinko santua, tuotiinko tuntua? Was sand obtained, was felt brought?
11Saatiin sekä tuotiin,Both obtained and brought,
oli vastaus. Senjälkeen kysyttiin:
12Mistäpäin perä pitää?From which direction does the lineage hold?
Toinen kosijoista vastasi:
13Tuotilt', taatilt',From grandfathers, from forefathers,
14Tuolt' peräputsukasta!From that stern-fastener there!
Ja näytti kädellään siihen suuntaan, mistäpäin kyseessä oleva ihminen oli. - - -
