SKVR textEnglish
Synnytys tuskissa pitää ottaa umpi lähteestä, hyvin kirkkaasta, vettä, ja koskesta ja järvestä yhteen pahka astijaan. Vettä ottaissa luvetaan:
a.
Tahon kiiskiltä kinoa,From the perch's side, I shuffle,
Matehelta nuljaskata,From Matkahaltia, I slip like a minnow,
Sivujani silitellä,Stroking my sides,
Myötä luita luijotella,Aligning the bones along their path,
Vesi on vanhin voitehista,Water is the eldest of ointments,
Kosken kuohu katsehista,The rapid's foam, the finest spectacle,
Jumala puhelijoista.God the greatest of speakers.
Sittä pannaan siihen veteen toisen kalan sisästä saatua kalaa, poltettu karreksi, niitä kypeniä; kolmesta lakeistorvesta nokea ja Neitsyt Maarian kuvalla hämmennetään ja luvetaan:
b.
Neitsyt Maarie emoni,Virgin Mary, my mother,
Rakas äiti armollinen,Beloved, merciful mother,
Sie olet palveri parahin,You are the finest servant,
Sauna vaimoista vakavin,The most solemn sauna-healer,
Tules tänne tarvitahan,Come here, you are needed,
Lähimmäksi lääkäriksi;As the nearest healer;
Tule tuskaisen tuville,Come to the anguished house,
Hätähisen huuteloille.To the desperate cries.
Suorie liina sukkihisi,Straighten the linen into your stockings,
Koppoa helmat koprihisi,Tuck your hem into your apron,
Tule pijan, välehen jouvu,Come swiftly, hasten your step,
Piijan pirtille pyhälle,To the maid's holy cottage,
Vaimon vaiva huoneheelle. To the woman's chamber of pain.
Päästä piika pinteheestä,Release the maid from confinement,
Vaimo vatsan väänteheestä,The wife from belly's torment,
Kanna vatsoa vasulla,Carry the womb with a basin,
Tuuvittele tuohisella.Steady it with birch-bark.
Tuop' on simoa tuopillinen,A tankard of mead is here,
Kanna mettä kannullinen,A pitcher of honey,
Puolet suuhuni puhase,Pour half into my mouth,
Toiset puolet voitehiksi,Half for ointments,
Jolla voijan luun lomia,With which I'll mend the bone's ache,
Auki vieritän veräjän,Roll open the gate,
Maalle saatan matkalaisen,Send the traveler to the land,
Näkemähän näitä maita,To see these lands,
Ilmoja ihailemahan,To marvel at the heavens,
Saisi kyläkin sanomat,May the village hear tidings,
Miero kunta kuulumisetThe far parish learn reports
Tulevalta vierahalta,From the arriving stranger,
Saavalta käkeävältä.From the lively cuckoo-voiced.
Tuota vettä annetaan lapsi vaimolle suuhun ja sivuja voitellaan vasemen käin nimettömällä sormella.
