Etenkin pitkittyneen synnytyksen helpottamiseksi luettiin loitsuja, joiden keskeisiä elementtejä ovat avunpyynnöt, synnytyskipujen kuvaukset, voiteen sanat, synnytystä estävän tekijän tiedustelut, kateiden ja kirojen sanat, sekä varsinaiset synnytyssanat, joissa synnytystien tukkivat esteet leikataan, revitään tai liukastetaan auki. Liukastavana voiteena mainitaan tyypillisesti mateen ja kiisken lima. Toisinaan esiintyy myös verensulkusanoja. Satunnaisesti synnytysloitsuihin sisältyy myös sekä naisen että miehen sukupuolielinten vihoihin ja vikoihin liittyviä loitsuaihelmia (VII, XII). Loitsuilla voitiin myös käynnistää synnytys, jos nainen "kantoi liikaa". Mukana on myös muutama ennen synnytystä luettu, synnytystä helpottava toivotus tai loitsu.
