Tapantipukin laulu.
Talossa, jossa tapantipukkia kestittiin, laulettiin:
1Minä laulan Tapanin tähän taloon.I sing St. Stephen into this house.
2Isännän mä ensin kiitän,First I praise the master,
3jok' on ohrat aitasta tuonut.who has brought barley from the granary.
4Emännän mä sitten kiitän,Then I praise the mistress,
5jok' on ohrista olven tehnyt, who has made beer from barley,
6makujuoman maltahista.the tasty drink from malt.
7Lehmäs sun lypsäköön,May your cow be milked,
8vasikkas' maitoo maistakoon, your calf taste the milk,
9hevoses' sun hirnukoon,your horse neigh,
10varsas' sun karjukoon,your foal bellow,
11ja häntänsä harjalle nostakoonand lift its tail to the ridge,
12ettei heitä talliin saatais!so they wouldn’t be taken to the stable!
Katkelma:
13"oviseinä orhin luista,"Door-wall from stag’s bones,
14peräseinä peuran luista,back-wall from wild deer’s bones,
15sivuseinät sirkan luista,side-walls from [hoof?] bones,
16halkoparret halapajuista"rafters from sallow willows."
kuului myös tähän lauluun.
Talossa, jossa ei kestitty, laulettiin:
17Isäntä hirteen,Master to the gallows,
18emäntä orteen,mistress to calamity,
19verinen puukko pöytään,a bloody knife on the table,
20lehmäs' verta lypsäköön,may your cow bleed when milked,
21sudet varsas' syököön!wolves devour your foal!
Sipsiössä lisäsi joku vielä edelliseen:
22"Haiman valkka potkikoon"May Haiman’s horse kick,
23Eskelin valakkaa ottikkoon"let [someone] take Eskeli’s herd!"
kun Eskelillä ei oltu päästy sisään laulamaan. (Tapantipukkia ei joskus voitu päästää sisään senkään vuoksi, että lapset pelkäsivät sitä).
