The archive’s description

Written by the editors of the SKVR type index and quoted as it stands, in Finnish.

Sodan kauheuden kuvaus rakentuu muutamasta usein ketjuuntuvasta säesarjasta: Siell on verta vyöhön asti, talmaa on jalan tasalle; Rattahat veressä vieree, rummut ulvoo uutikessa; Niin on siellä päähysiä, niinkuin rannalla kiviä (jne. - pitkä sarja niin - niinkuin -vertauksia), Kannaksella lisäksi: Päät ne suolle mättähäks - hiukset suolle virvilöiks - silmät suolle karpaloiks (samaa ks. Iivana Kojosenpoika). Satunnaisesti muitakin säkeitä (Pyssyn pylke, miekan helke; Tuolla lyijy miestä lyöpi; viittauksia Turkin, Tasamartin, Frantsuusin ym. sotaan). Aihelman pituus vaihtelee parista (*) kymmeniin säkeisiin (esim. III3 4208).

Kuvaus yhdistyy moniin kertoviin runoihin: Sotamiehenotto, Sotasanomat, Lohikäärme ja neito, Nurmen neito, Miekka mereen ym., sekä naisten lyyrisiin valituksiin poikien ja miesten kohtalosta (>Ei tiedä emo poloinen; Vello vieremässä).
