Word Comparison

Put two words side by side and see what the corpus, the nine dictionaries and the AI annotation say about each: how often they occur and where, which spellings they are written in, what they were translated as, and whether they are recorded as a cross-lingual pair.

What this page does

Compares two words side by side across frequency, dictionary coverage, word forms, translations and etymology in the Finnic runosong corpora (SKVR, KR, JR, ERAB).

  • Search: type a word in each field. Autocomplete suggests matching entries from the lexicon.
  • Swap: the ⇄ button exchanges the left and right words.
  • Word forms are the spellings the corpus itself files under that entry, with the number of occurrences of each. Spellings the corpus reads as belonging to a different entry are left out.
  • Dictionary entries come from the nine dictionaries the corpus is enriched with. A word with no entry here is simply not covered by any of them — it is not an error.
  • Translations and etymology are the DeepSeek AI annotation, not a scholarly etymology.
  • The three cards above the panels are cognate pairs drawn from the cognate index: the highest-scoring one, the one with most shared spellings, and one at random.
