Each row is an Estonian (ET) ↔ Finnish (FI) song type pair connected by shared verse material. If the same (or closely similar) verse cluster appears in both traditions' recordings of these two song types, that counts as a bridge.
Shows where each bridged song type sits. Every type is placed at the collection-weighted centre of its recording places, computed per language so an Estonian type lands in Estonia and its Finnish partner in Finland. Circles are orange for Estonian types, blue for Finnish. Lines are coloured by the strongest evidence each bridge carries: deep purple verse-confirmed bridges have both a meaning match and shared verses (the strongest, "same song" connections); light purple bridges match by meaning only (the same relation the Song Types page shows); teal bridges share verse material only — their poems carry the same verses even though they are not in the meaning-match index (often shared incantation formulae, but the strongest are real cross-lingual songs the meaning layer missed); and amber dashed whole-poem resemblance bridges connect types whose whole poems look alike across the border (the weakest evidence type — set the Whole-poem filter above the map to Require to focus on these). The whole-poem layer offers two sources you can switch between: the whole-poem, order-aware measure and the shared verse material, multi-leg measure — they can disagree, which is exactly why both are offered. Treat it as the weakest evidence type here: under the order-aware source a cross-language link leans almost entirely on one translation-based comparison, so be cautious with low-count links; under the multi-leg source the link is backed by several independent legs but is order-free, so a high count can reflect a few shared formulaic lines rather than whole-poem similarity. Throughout the map, a type's dot marks where its tradition was collected, not a single place of origin. Each kind of evidence has its own filter above the map: set it to Any, Require (with a minimum on the slider beside it), or Exclude, and combine the three freely; click a type for its own bridges, or click a line for its details.
