The archive’s description
Written by the editors of the SKVR type index and quoted as it stands, in Finnish.
Metsänpeittoon joutunutta, metsälaitumelta palaamatta jäänyttä lehmää kutsuttiin suoraan, tai lehmän palauttamisesta neuvoteltiin metsänhaltijan, pirun tai hiiden kanssa. Dialogirakenne on neuvotteluissa tyypillinen. Usein loitsut heijastavat myös metsänpeitosta palauttamisen yhteydessä suoritettuja taikatapoja, esim. metsän sitomista: ihminen lupaa vapauttaa metsän (tämän pojat tai karjan, oksiin sidotut kivipainot jne.), jos metsä palauttaa ihmiselle kuuluvan karjan. Loitsuissa esiintyy myös uhrisanoja metsälle ja maalle.
