The archive’s description
Written by the editors of the ERAB type index and quoted as it stands, in Estonian.
ERlA 1815. MEMME VAEV: tuntud ülemaaliselt (eriti eP), populaarsemaid laule regivärsi seas üldse. Väga aldis liituma teiste lapsepõlvelauludega (eriti 1809 «Kolm kätkit», 1814 «Pillil peetud», 109 «Lauliku lapsepõlv», 1818 «Sõid eide südant», 1822 «Ema viis põlles põllu peale» jt.), puhuti ka tüüpidega teistest piirkondadest (1159 «Nägin näljapäevi», 1196 «Kuhu pean minema»). Algusmotiiv («millal maksan eide vaeva...») on saanud lapsepõlvelaulude üheks stereotüüpseks algusvormeliks. See laul oma ereda ja väljapeetud pildistikuga on üks regivärsilise lüürika mõjuvamaid näiteid.
Vrd: Ema arm on põhjato. – Eesti-ma rahwa Kalender, ehk Täht-ramat 1829 aasta peäle. Tallinn, J. H. Gressel 1828, laul nr 1.
