The archive’s description

Written by the editors of the SKVR type index and quoted as it stands, in Finnish.

Ydinaiheena käynti kaukana paimenessa ja siellä saatu palkka (kestitys). Runo on usein kysymys-vastaus-muotoinen. Paljon erilaisia muunnelmia, pyritty keskittämään tämän otsikon alle.

Aloituksena on usein kysymys: Missä kävit, viivyit, kävelit? Mistä tulet? Kysymys osoitetaan "sinulle" (esim. Missä viivyit tämän kesoisen) tai revolle tms (Riu rau reporukka / Rannan pappi/kukka), tetrille (Terve tetri maksa kaura), piialle, muorille, tupakkirullalle (osana >Tuu tuu tupakkarulla -kehtolaulua), siskolle jne. Runo voi alkaa myös toteamuksella (Kävin kerran taivahassa; Ämmä meni taivaaseen; Isä meni Inkeroo; Poika mämi Pohjanmaale; Likkatyttö paimeneks tms.)

Vastaus kertoo käyntipaikan ja syyn: paimentamassa (Jumalan lehmiä, lehmiä, lampaita, lintuja tms.) taivaassa, tätilässä (taattoloissa, maammoloissa, soissa maissa) jne.

Mitä sait palkkaa -kysymykseen vastaukset ovat kahta tyyppiä.

1) Useimmiten palkaksi mainitaan 10 tms. poikaa (koiraa), joiden nimet luetellaan, esim.: Iitami, Aatami, Suutari, räätäli; Suutari, räätäli, pikipöksy pietari; Yks on ytti, toinen totti - Numeroloru yms. Räätäli-loru toistuu samanlaisena Suutari, tee minulle kengät - minä menen naimaan -aiheessa, johon tämä aihe usein ketjuuntuu: palkaksi saatu räätäli tekee minälle naimakengät. Ks. myös leikinalkajaisloru >Kävin kerran taivahassa. Tässä yhteydessä luetellaan myös konkstittomat suutari-luettelot.

2) Itä ja Pohj.-Inkerissä ja Etelä-Karjalassa kestityksenä/palkkana on tavallisia huonon ruoan formuloita (luut lihoista, päät kaloista, kuoret leivistä kovista/leiviskä kesäistä voita; kappa ruista/otraa tms.).

Aihelma yhdistyy herkästi muihin aiheisiin: >Suutari, tee minulle kengät; leikinalkajaislorut, kehtolaulut (esim. >Tuu tuu tupakkarulla). Tverissä aiheen seurana on Hanhi kadonnut,

Kannaksen piirissä esim. Onnimanni ja Iso sika, joskus kantelerunokin.
