The archive’s description

Written by the editors of the SKVR type index and quoted as it stands, in Finnish.

Eläinten pidot -aihe voi olla itsenäinen runo, mutta yleisemmin se on erilaisten kokonaisuuksien osa (esim. runoissa Eläinten häät; Körö körö kirkkoon/tätilään/Huittisiin - kestitys). Runoaihe on hajanainen ja koostuu erilaisin yhdistelmin seuraavista aihelmista (voivat esiintyä myös yksinään):

1) oluenkeitto (esim. Tiainen olutta keitti, västäräkki vettä kantoi); esiintyy myös kertovissa oluensynty-runoissa, pyritty poimimaan tähän kaikki esiintymät

2) puuronkeitto (esim. Kukko puuron keitti, kana maidon lämmitti - usein esim. tätilään menon jatkeena)

3) astioiden pesu ym. askareet (esim. Pikku lintu lusikat pesee, varis tallin lakaisee)

4) syöpäläisten kotipuuhat (kirppu, lutikka, täi ja torakka touhuavat tuvassa)

5) suden ja jäniksen jauhaminen (esim. Susi survoo, häntä keikkaa, jänis jauhaa, pää järisee); on yksinään merkitty tähdellä, koska poikkeaa sävyltään muista)

6) soitto (Sorsa soitti kanteletta, hakemistossa erikseen)

7) tanssi (esim. Kurki hyppi, kärki tanssi, tarhapöllö pyörähteli).

8) tappelu (joskus, esim. III1 1111: Tora kohtaki tomahti, julma riemahti jupakka, hame halkes pääskyseltä, takki tahrattii variksen).

- Joskus eläinten puuhat (etenkin syöpäläisten) on tulkittu pilkka-aiheeksi (esim. sulhasen kotia pilkatessa ja Hämeen ihmeet -runossa, näitä ei poimittu tähän). Samantyyppisiä eläinten ihmismäisiä toimia esiintyy muuallakin, ks. esim. Olutpidot - kupias kutsumatta ym.
